Knowledge Bites: Foundations

In this nine video series, we are exploring some key aspects of the world’s main religions that you will encounter in your teaching. This is a foundation of learning that future video series will be built upon. Welcome to Foundational Knowledge.

In World Religions Overview we have a concise introduction to major world religions (or Institutional Worldviews), including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhi, giving a foundation for comparative religious studies in future videos.

The Bible explores the divisions, books, and key themes within the Bible. Essential knowledge for teachers to convey the basis of Christian beliefs and morality. Similarly, in The Quran we Explore the divisions, Surahs, and key themes within the Muslim sacred text which gives the basis for Muslim beliefs and worldviews. There is also Jewish Sacred Texts which explores the structure, books and key themes within the texts and their basis within the Jewish religion.

Dharmic Sacred Texts introduces teachers to sacred texts in Dharmic traditions. Texts such as the Bhagavad Gita or the Tao Te Ching, and the role of these texts within these traditions.

The Life of Jesus is a detailed look at the life of Jesus and his teachings, a fundamental topic for Christian religious education.

Similarly, Prophets in Islam examines the role of prophets in Islam and their significance in Islamic beliefs, providing insights into this Abrahamic tradition.

Prayer discusses the concept of prayer in different religions. This video includes topics such as its rituals and significance, and how we can use this when teaching about religious practices.

The series ends with Festivals, giving an overview of the major festivals and celebrations in different religions.
